Proposed legislation would impact commercial real estate exchanges

There is legislation currently being discussed that is gaining traction and which could significantly impact § 1031 exchanges of commercial real estate properties after 2014! There are a couple of proposals which might potentially affect §1031 of the Internal Revenue Code. The House Ways and Means Committee has proposed the Tax Reform Act of 2014. In its current form, this proposal repeals §1031 in its entirety.

Chief Judge Eric Washington of the D.C. Court of Appeals and Chief Judge Lee Satterfield of the D.C. Superior Court recently announced the 2013 Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll of attorneys who have contributed at least 50 hours to serving the legal needs of those living in poverty in the area.

Kelley Halliburton is listed on the 2013 Honor Roll, while Laura Fraher is recognized on the 2013 High Honor Roll as an attorney who performed 100 or more hours of pro bono service last year.
